Military Medal, G.V.R. (51048 Bmbr. E. F. May. R.F.A.); 1914-15 Star (51048 Gnr: E. F. May. R.F.A.), the first perhaps a slightly later issue, very fine (2)

M.M. Edinburgh Gazette 18 July 1918.

Ernest F. May was a native of Erith and served in France from 3 September 1915. He earned his M.M. whilst serving with 'A' (Howitzer) Battery, 79 Brigade, 9th Divisional Artillery. Given the date of his award it seems likely it was earned around the start of the German Spring Offensive. He was gassed on 11 April 1918; sold together with a photograph of the recipient.
