William Henry Alford was born at Hastings on 29 June 1882 and was an Errand Boy upon joining the Royal Navy on 29 June 1900. At the start of the Great War he served at Drake from 17 July 1914-7 April 1915 , Victory, thence King George V between 1 July 1915-31 March 1918. Alford died on 9 April 1918 due to Pulmonary Tuberculosis and is buried in the Lyness Royal Naval Cemetery.
