Philip Rundle was born at Bodmin, Cornwall on 15 February 1883 and was a labourer upon his joining the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 26 November 1902. During the Great War he served aboard Leander. Remaining there until 30 August 1915, he thence went to Vivid II where he stayed until 8 July 1916 and then removing to Duke of Edinburgh until 3 August 1918. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1921, he completed his service on 14 February 1923 and joined the Royal Fleet Reserve.
