1679 (24 Jan.) letter signed regarding preparations for naval operations in Flanders and France reading "The Sooner the Dunkirke be dispatched to Portsmath the better, his Ma[jes]tie being grately desirous of increasing the Squadron there, as you will find more fully soe soone as the fetching over of the Force from Flanders will allow ye sending of them thither ... hastening over all the Ships and vessells you can, and Even the Oxford & Dover to Capt. Wetwang who otherwise I feare will be in great Streights for Shipping upon the Comeing of the 400 men from Brabon ... I presume I shall very shortly give you an answer to what you write about Lt. Dancer's late proceedings in France, which truely I am very sorry should prove so unsuccessful.".

Signed "Your very humble servant S Pepys".

With note at foot reading "If ye Swan comes to you from Harch pray hasten her away too by supplying her a small quantity of provisions.

Paper torn and damaged with some text loss, backed for preservation though legible and a superb document.
