The Robin Gain Collection of Samuel Pepys and Pepys Related Documents
Signed "S Pepys"
1677 (24 Jan.) letter signed from Derby Housed to "Doctor Hews at Albrough [Aldeburgh]" regarding Mr. Wyndham whose petition to the King has found favour, requesting that Dr. Hews "enable mee to give his Majty and my Lords of ye Admiralty a free state of the matter of Fact, touching the Wrack mentioned therein". Signed "S Pepys". Foxed, with some paper loss at left and hinged along same edge to card. Superb.

Notes: "Mr. Wyndham" is perhaps Colonel Edmund Wyndham, husband of Christabella Wyndham, governess to the future Charles II. He was chiefly of interest to Pepys as being the only man he knew who sailed his own yacht for pleasure.
