Bacon's Rebellion, Virginia
1677 letter signed by Sir John Fredereck swearing service of the ship "Rebecca" as a man of war from the 23 August 1676 to 13 February 1677, detailing crew, arms and provisions: "That there was by this shipps Company & Soldrs expended the time she was in his Mas service four barrells of Powder with shott proporionable. That the shipp's small armes were commanded ashore by the Governor and left in Virginia with the Soldgers, which we Six Musquetts, Six Swords & Two Postoles. Thomas Larremar, Edward Audley, Hon Richardson"; document with some foxing and folds otherwise fine and a remarkable early reference to Virginia.

Notes: Between 1676-1677 Nathaniel Bacon lead the settlers of Virginia in an armed rebellion against Colonial Governor William Berkeley. The Rebecca, mentioned here was captured by Bacon's followers and refitted with guns, later recaptured by Philip Ludwell.
