Adam Baynes
1659 (11 June) military commission on vellum appointing Adam Baynes as Captain of a Troop of Horses in the Regiment of Major General John Lambert; "Signed in the Name of the Parliament of the Commonwealth of England", "Wm [William] Lenthall, Speaker". A scarce signature.
Offered together with 1660 (8 June) related document issued in his Majesty's court in Breda pardoning the same Adam Bayness on behalf of the newly formed Rump Parliament. Signed by Adam Baynes and "Har: [Harbottle] Grimston, Speaker of the House of Commons"

Notes: William Lenthall (1591-1662) known for serving the role of Speaker of the House of Commons and the Long Parliament from 1640. By 1659, Lenthall had become a figurative constitutional head of state during which time Generals George Monck and Richard Lambert tussled for power over Parliament. Lenthall's position of authority over Parliament became such that he was appointed the authority to sign military and naval commissions, making him the only Speaker to be granted such authority.

Adam Baynes, a known supporter of the John Lambert and the Parliamentarian cause.
