Auction: 23004 - Ancient and British Coins - Featuring the 'White Rose' Collection
Lot: 538
William III, Solus (1694-1702), Half-Guinea, 1701, first laureate head right, rev. large crowned shields cruciform, five strings to shapely later harp, six billets, baluster-like emblem-adorned sceptres in angles, edge obliquely milled, 4.14g [63.6grns], 7h (Ellerby -; MCE 196; Schneider II, 522; EGC 442 [Type D/7]; Spink 3468), an exceptionally pretty example, the minor cabinet friction and softness of strike to laurels more than offset by sublime reddish-purple toning overlying handsomely lustrous surfaces, a most thoroughly wholesome and appealing good very fine, a surprisingly scarce offering, the first in these rooms since March 2018, and rarer still with this enchanting eye appeal!
