William III, Solus (1694-1702), 'Royal African Company', 'Elephant and Castle' Half-Guinea, 1696, first laureate head right, E&C below, rev. small lettering, large crowned shields cruciform, three strings to early harp, nine billets, baluster-like emblem-adorned sceptres in angles, edge obliquely milled, 4.16g [63.8grns], 6h (Ellerby -; MCE 191; Schneider II, 516; EGC 431 [R2] [Type C/1]; Spink 3467), uniformly struck up on a broad and elliptical flan, with much playful lustre in recesses, good very fine, very rare, the first to be offered in these rooms since the Waterbird sale in 2019
