William III, Solus (1694-1702), Guinea, 1698, Large Date, second laureate head right, rev. stops after MAG, FRA and HIB, crowned shields cruciform, five strings to shapely later harp, seven billets, baluster-like emblem-adorned sceptres in angles, edge obliquely milled, 8.30g [128.0grns], 5h (Ellerby - [cf. 145-147]; MCE 180; Farey 410; EGC 417 [Type C/11]; Spink 3460), bright but residually lustrous on a larger flan, a radiating die flaw in second quarter of reverse, otherwise near very fine, the reverse bolder, a scarcer variety with the legend stops, not present in the Ellerby Area hoard
