Military Medal, G.VI.R. (H38623 L/Cpl. C. H. McNeill. R. C. Sigs.); 1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Canadian Voluntary Service Medal, with Overseas Service Bar; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, these last three Canadian issues in silver, good very fine (6)

Charles Henry McNeill was born at Reaburn, Manitoba and was a truck driver upon enlisting in the Canadian Forces in June 1940. Having completed his training in Canada he came over to the United Kingdom and whilst there married Elsie Phillips, a native of Carshalton, Surrey.

He landed in France on D-Day, 6 June 1944 and served throughout the campaign in North-West Europe, earning his M.M. during the closing stages of the Second World War. Discharged in September 1946, his campaign Medals were issued in January 1991. McNeill died at the Bethany Care Centre, Calgary in October 2004 and a memorial service was held for him at Chapel Lawn, Winnipeg, whilst a tree was planted as a living memory of him in Fish Creek Provincial Park; sold together with copied service record.
