John Aubrey Green was born on 29 July 1922 and joined the Royal Signals at some stage prior to the Second World War. Serving with the rank of Warrant Officer Class I he was stationed at the Indian Signal Corps School in November 1947 and with the British Army on the Rhine by 1952.

Stationed at Aden in 1958 with 222 Signal Squadron Green was commissioned Lieutenant here on 7 July 1960. Returning to Britain that same year he was further advanced Captain and posted to Singapore with 249 Squadron on 26 August 1967. From there he was sent to Thailand as Technical Officer Telecommunications to the Exercise Planning Group, a letter written to his wife from the Grand Hotel in Bangkok states:

'As you can see by the address I have come up to Thailand about eight days before I should have done. This is because I have joined the "Exercise Planning Group" as the U.K. Technical Liaison [SIC] Officer. I shall be here till about next sunday then I shall move deeper into Thailand.'

Tragically only four days after the letter was written on 16 February 1968 Green died of a heart attack in Bangkok.

Pauline Agnes Green (Nee Kingston) was born at Cardiff on 30 December 1923. She joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service during the Second World War on 17 March 1942 and saw service with it as a Private until 10 May 1946 before joining the post-war Territorials. It was here she met her second husband, the then Warrant Officer John Green, marrying him in 1957 (her previous married name having been Selawan).

Joining the Woman's Royal Army Corps on 27 February 1956 with the rank of Sergeant she spent time with Green in Aden where he was commissioned to the rank of Lieutenant. She remained with the Woman's Royal Army Corps, seeing much service as an instructor and was finally invalided on 27 April 1960.
