Robert Llewellyn Williams was born at Swansea, Glamorgan on 11 February 1889 and enlisted on 8 August 1907 with the rank of Stoker class II. Advanced Stoker class I while aboard H.M.S. Donegal he saw a good deal of service ashore at Vivid II as well as two tours aboard H.M.S. Leander.
Transferred at the Royal Fleet Reserve on 4 August 1912 Williams was returned to service on 13 July 1914 at H.M.S. Magnificent. Posted to Albion on 28 July 1914 he was present with her in the Atlantic and later during the German South-West Africa campaign where she provided support to the Allied forces. Moving to the Mediterranean in January 1915 she was part of the fleet which attacked the Ottoman fortifications around the Dardanelles. Most notably she was part of the raid on Sedd el Bahr on 3 March and a little over a fortnight later largest of these battle on 18 March 1915. Continuing to operate area she covered both the Cape Helles landings and the fighting at Krithia, being hit so severely by artillery fire during this period that she withdrew to Mudros for repairs.
Williams was still aboard when Albion went on to support the allied forces landing at Salonica. After she returned to Britain, he went ashore at Vivid II and was posted to the destroyer Plyades from 28 March 1916-31 December 1917. Finally posted to H.M.S. Wakeful he remained with her until 7 March 1919 and was demobilised on 10 June 1921; sold together with copied medal rolls and service record.
