Edmund Alfred Vaughan was born at Hoxton on 19 February 1883 and was a labourer upon his joining the Royal Navy on 9 February 1901. During the Grear War he served aboard Orion from 4 February 1914-2 May 1915, which would have seen Vaughan share in the German raids on Scarborough, Hartlepool, and Whitby in December 1914 and Leander from 1 July 1915-21 May 1918. Having earned his L.S. & G.C., Vaughan was pensioned ashore on 21 February 1923.
