Jack Gillett was born in 1882 and served in the 13th Battalion, Kings's Royal Rifle Corps. The unit were raised at Winchester on 7 October 1914 and went to Halton Park, Wendover before moving off to Amersham and Great Missenden in billets. They proceeded to France - Gillett included - and landed on 1 August 1915. Having sometime transferred to the Sussex Yeomanry, Gillett was discharged with a Silver War Badge on account of his age on 22 November 1917. He intended to live in Abertillery, Monmouthshire; sold together with copied research.
