Cyril McLynchy was born in 1889 and lived in Clapham. Having joined the Territorials in February 1909, he served in France with the 1/14th Battalion under the legendary Colonel Malcolm from 15 September 1914 (1914 Star and clasp). He would have shared in their famous action on 31 October on the Messines Ridge when they became the first Territorial unit of the British Army to see combat. McLynchy was admitted to hospital with dysentery from 29 November-9 December 1914 and was discharged in February 1919.
