William LowndesBurton Daily Mail gives more detail:

'Still another Burton soldier has given his life for his country. Mrs Lowndes of 122 Byrkley Street was informed by the War Office that her husband...had passed away on January 2nd from wounds received on October 31st at Ypres. Apparently Private Lowndes has not moved from No. 6 Field Hospital, France, to which he was taken after being injured in the head by shrapnel in the firing line.'

He is commemorated upon the Ploegsteert Memorial.
