Victory Medal 1914-19 (Capt. H. Buckle.), good very fine

Henry Buckle - or 'Cully' to his friends and comrades - was born on 24 August 1880 and was educated at Clifton College and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. Having served during the Boer War, he was present in France with the Royal Field Artillery from 20 August 1914. Straight into the action, he was taken a Prisoner of War at the Battle of Le Cateau on 26 August 1914, being severely wounded in the action whilst serving as Battery Captain with 11th (Field) Battery. He died of his wounds on 4 October 1914, aged 34 and is buried in the Cologne Southern Cemetery.
