Victory Medal 1914-19 (M.20228 D. S. Jenkins. Wmn.2 R.N.), edge bruising, very fine

David Stanley Jenkins was born at Aberavon, Glamorgan on 10 October 1892. Working as an Electrician (Wireman) prior to enlisting on 22 March 1916 with the rank of Wireman Class II. Jenkins had previously been a member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve before being posted directly to H.M.S. Warspite and was still with the ship during the Battle of Jutland just two months later. The ship was famously battered during the fighting when damage to her steering had her sailing in circles before the guns of the High Sees Fleet. Warpite took everything that was thrown at her while the crew valiantly undertook repairs in the midst of the barrage. Surviving the battle Jenkins continued to serve with the Grand Old Lady until the end of the war, being demobilised on 14 February 1919; sold together with copied service records.
