Victory Medal 1914-19 (Ch.5629 L.Cpl. R. J. Drake. R.M.L.I.), edge bruise, very fine

Richard John Drake was born in Kent on 9 August 1869 and enlisted with the Royal Marines on 9 April 1890. He served for many years prior to the Great War and was with H.M.S. Theseus during the 1897 Benin expedition (Medal and Clasp) where he formed part of the flying column that took Benin City. Demobilised on 21 April 1911 Drake joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and was mobilised for service during the Great War. During this time he served ashore in Britain for the most part however his records do show time spent aboard Q-Ships in 1915 and 1916. Drake was demobilised on 22 March 1919; sold together with copied service papers.
