Thomas McCaskie was born at Oldluce, Glenluce, Wigtown in 1890, the son of Thomas and Margret McCaskie, of 22 Agnew Crescent, Wigtown. Enlisting at Wigtown McCaskie entered the war on 6 June 1915 at Gallipoli, were they faced action at Gully Ravine, Achi Baba Nullah and the Krithia Nullahs. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the poor conditions of the Gallipoli trenches McCaskie fell ill and was invalided back to Britain, he died of dysentery at Netley Hospital on 7 November 1915 and is buried in Wigtown Cemetery; sold together with copied information on 1/5th Battalion and a photograph of the recipient's grave.
David Hendry McCaskie was born at Old Luce, Wigtownshire in 1893, the son of Thomas and Margret McCaskie, of 22 Agnew Crescent, Wigtown. Prior to enlisting at Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, he worked for the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society. Joining 12th Battalion in France at some stage after their arrival in July 1915 McCaskie was still serving during the German Spring Offensive. Here the 12th Battalion was one of the formations thrown into the frontline to try and stall the enemy advance and some heavy and desperate heavy fighting as a result. McCaskie was killed this action while they were engaged around Aveluy Wood on 29 April 1918. He is commemorated upon the Pozieres Memorial; sold together with a copy of the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society Roll of Honour, including a picture of the recipient in uniform.
