Adrian August Abbott was born at Killarney, Ireland on 29 January 1886, the son of Alice and Major-General William Abbott of Battledown, Cheltenham. Notably he was grandson of Major-General Sir Augustus Abbott of the Bengal Artillery who served through the First Afghan War including the intial invasion and General Sale's defence of Jellalabad. Educated at Malvern College Abbott worked as Journalist and Schoolmaster at Sydney Grammer School before the war. Enlisting with the Australian Imperial Force on 12 May 1915 and embarked with them from Sydney on 25 June 1915.
Serving with 'B' Company, 20th Battalion Abbott entered the war at Gallipoli and after the evacuation transferring to France. Suffering from Trench Foot he was discharged on 25 August 1917 however he re-joined the after the war serving with the 6th King Edward's Own Cavalry, Indian Army. Later transferring to the 4th Cavalry, Indian Army he died in Tangers, Morocco on 20 February 1951; sold together with an A.I.F. Project summary.
