Victory Medal 1914-1919 (S-1054 Pte. W. Goule Rif. Brig.), good very fine

William Septimus Goule was born at Barry Dock in 1898, the son of Louis and Emma Goule of Sydenham Street, Barry, Glamorgan. His father worked as a carpenter until 1902 when he died leaving his wife to raise their 5 children. Goule enlisted at Barry on 4 September 1914 with the Rifle Brigade and was posted to the 11th Battalion on 21 September. Entering the war in France on 22 July 1915 with this unit he served until being invalided with Trench Foot on 3 March 1916, being sent first to 45 Casualty Clearing Station and later to No. 10 General Hospital in Britain.

Returning to France he was posted to the 1st Battalion on 22 December 1916 Goule served with them until 14 April 1918. Here the Battalion was stationed South East of Ronecq at Palaut Wood when Goule was severely wounded. Taken to 23rd Casualty Clearing Station he died there on 15 April and was buried at Lapugnoy Military Cemetery; sold together with copied .M.I.C, medal rolls and Commonwealth War Graves details as well as copied memorial scroll and roll of honour entry.
