Victory Medal 1914-1919 (4140 Pte. S. S. Jenkins. H.A.C. - Inf. -), good very fine
Sidney Stuart Jenkins was born on 1892, the son of James and Agnes Jenkinsof 282 Holton Road, Barry. Educated at University College, Cardiff he became a teacher at the Friends' Secondary School, Saffron Walden. Enlisting with the Honourable Artillery Company- Infantry- on 4 August 1915 he entered the war in France on 4 December 1915 (Star) with 1st Battalion. Hospitalised with Influenza on 12 November 1916 at 11 Casuality Clearing station before being transferred to No. 26 Stationary Hospital on 15 November. Returning to the Battalion on 14 December Jenkins was promoted Lance-Corporal, unpaid, on 7 April 1917 but was wounded in action a few weeks later on 23 April during the Battle of Arras. Sent to 30 Casualty Clearing Station with gunshot wounds in the head, back and right buttock he died at Liverpool Merchant's Mobile Hospital on 28 April. He is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery; sold together with copied research including service records, Commonwealth War graves details and roll of honour entry.
