British War Medal 1914-20 (182176. Cadet. G. H. N. Lurie. R.A.F.), polished, contact wear, verdigris, overall nearly very fine
George Harry Nestles Lurie was born at Leban, Russia on 22 February 1894 and lived in Pretoria with his parents prior to the outbreak of war. Joining the South African Medical Corps on 15 October 1914 as a 1st Lieutenant, he served until 17 March 1915 when he was invalided having suffered from 'suppurating glands of the left groin' while stationed at Kimberly. Later embarking for Britain aboard the transport ship Galway Castle on 17 July 1918 and arrived at the Cadet Distribution Depot on 18 August 1918. He served with No. 2 and No. 8 Cadet Wings during his time before being transferred to the Royal Air Force Reserve on 11 January 1919. Lurie further saw Second World War service; sold together with copied service and medical records.
