The British War Medal to Major H. L. Reed, Middlesex Regiment, a life-long educationalist who served with the Westminster School Officers' Training Corps and later Principal of the Royal College, Colombo

British War Medal 1914-20 (Major H. L. Reed.), good very fine

Harry Leslie Reed was born in October 1885 and, after education at Merchant Taylors' School and Clare College Cambridge was appointed Assistant Master of Science and Mathematics at Westminster School in London. His M.I.C. notes service as a Second Lieutenant with the school O.T.C., before further service as a Captain in the Middlesex Regiment and as a Major on the General List (Staff); he is additionally noted as being in France from June 1916 with entitlement to the Allied Victory Medal alongside his British War Medal.
Returning to teaching post-war, he clearly saw opportunities abroad as he was appointed Principal of Royal College in Columbo for twelve years, from 1920 - 1932. The school's website makes note of his many achievements whilst at the helm, including writing the College Song (1927); designing a new College Crest (1922); designing new sports blazers, and building the College Pavilion (1930). Reed died, back in the United Kingdom, in October 1969.
