The British War Medal awarded to Major R. S. Swalwell, a first-class cricketer who played for the famous M.C.C. and the Gentlemen of England

British War Medal 1914-20 (Major R. S. Swalwell), good very fine

Reginald Sawdon Swalwell was born in June 1873 in York; coming into his own as a cricketer in the early part of the 20th Century, he made his first-class debut for Worcestershire against Yorkshire in the County Championship at the New Road cricket ground. His post-war sporting career saw him play for the M.C.C. for several years, making 72 against Cambridge University in 1921 and playing for the Gentlemen of England against the Combined Services in 1920.
During the Great War, Swalwell was employed in France variously with the 38th and 10th Division Train and is additionally entitled to the 1914-15 Star and Allied Victory Medal. He died in Sunningdale, Berkshire, in September 1930.
