British War Medal 1914-20 (Major W. H. Stanbury), good very fine

William Henry Stanbury was born in December 1866 and was an architectural surveyor by training. Serving with the Royal Engineers in France from February 1915, previous postings had included the Royal Engineers' office in Gibraltar and at Fort Canning in Singapore - indeed his M.I.C. notes the forwarding address for his medals (applied 1921) as 'R.E. Mess, Pulo Brani, Singapore'.
Stanbury is additionally entitled to the 1914-15 Star and Allied Victory Medal, and also appears to have been a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (Directory of British Architects, 1834-1914: Vol. 2, p. 682, refers).
