‘For great gallantry and brilliant leadership near Wassigny on 18-10-1918, when in command of a Platoon in the attack. He showed throughout great initiative and power of command, while his utter disregard of personal danger was a fine example to all under him. Throughout he was on the forefront, and though this involved crossing a heavy barrage, he succeeded in capturing a battery of guns together with their personnel. The fine work done by his platoon that day mainly due to his dash, ability and courage.’
