D.C.M. London Gazette 26 March 1918:

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an enemy attack. He was in charge of a bombing block, which was repeatedly attacked. On two occasions all the
garrison except himself were killed or wounded, but he remained at his post and kept the enemy back single-handed with the greatest courage and determination.'

Charles Rae was a native of Pathhead.
