William 'Billy' Goodfellow was born at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire in January 1897, the son of William and Elizabeth Goodfellow of 24 Spring Road, Longton, Staffordshire. Working as an Assistant Cook prior to enlistment on 4 October 1917, he was depot posted on 20 February 1918. Later transferred to 1st/5th Battalion in France on 25 February. Serving with this unit here Goodfellow was involved in an attack upon Beaux and Leduc Trenches which resulted in his death. He is buried at Bellicourt British Cemetery and remembered upon the Longton Park War Memorial; sold together with copied research including an individual report summarising his records, Commonwealth War Graves details and typed biographical notes as well as an original Catholic commemorative medal.
