Joseph George Hutchinson was born in 1899, the adopted son of Mrs Sarah Smith, of Parkside, 33 St. Aidans Road, South Shields. Enlisting at Stokesley, Yorkshire he was posted to 'X' Platoon, 'C' Company, 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) on 6 March 1918. He was listed as missing on 27 May 1918 during the withdrawal to Guyencourt and is assumed to have died from wounds. Hutchinson is remembered on the Soissons Memorial; sold together with copied research including Commonwealth War Graves details and M.I.C.
