Six: Private L. G. Tondeur, 1st/13th (Kensington) Battalion, London Regiment, who was seriously wounded in the head on 15 March 1915 and went on to see Second War Service

Louis George Tondeur was born in Lewisham, in 1887, the son of Louis and Phoebe Tondeur. Married on 27 October 1907 in Kensington to Amy Lily Tonduer they had two children by the start of the war. Enlisting with the London Regiment on 1 September 1914 Tondeur was posted to 1st/13th (Kensington) Battalion and entered the War in France on 3 November 1914. He did not serve here for a long time suffering a gunshot wound to the scalp on 15 March 1915 and was sent for treatment at 8th Hospital, Rouen. Returning to Britain he was invalided from the service on 4 October 1915.

Two of Tondeur's brothers died during the war and a third was to die in the Second World War, Cleon Louis Tondeur died in the sinking of the S.S. Treworlas by U-124 on 28 December 1942. The details of Tondeur's service in this conflict are unknown but considering his age it is likely involved in civil defence. A photograph showing Tondeur singing in the Tower of London choir suggests that he may also have been in some way involved in the Royal Household; sold together with the corresponding mounted dress miniatures, photographs of the recipient's parents as well as two other photographs of him, including the one referenced above along with copied research including his Service Record, medal rolls and .M.I.C. as well as the Commonwealth War Graves details for his brother C. L. Tondeur.
