William Joseph Goodey enlisted on 27 January 1908. Entering the war on 10 September 1914 with the 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Transferring at first to the 6th Battalion and later to the Army Cyclists Corps with the rank of Lance Corporal. Goodey was invalided from the service due to sickness on 30 August 1916, he was issued his Silver War Badge on 17 October 1916.
