Four: Private F. C. Edbrooke, 7th Battalion, Queen's Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment, late Border Regiment who was killed in action on 21 October 1918

Frederick Charles Edbrooke was born at Barry, Glamorgan on 1899, the only son of Charles and Minnie Edbrooke of 4 Saron Street, Treforest, Glamorgan. Enlisting with 1/5th Battalion, Border Regiment transferring to 7th Battalion, Queen's Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment and joining them in the attempt to push through the Hindenburg Line in October 1918. The attack was scheduled for 23 October and intended to push through the lines at Gardemill and Ervillers Wood Farm into Corbeau. In preparation for this attack patrols were sent out to survey the German lines and it was on one of these patrols on 21 October 1918 that Edbrooke was killed by shellfire. He is buried at Montay-Neuvilly Road Cemetery, Montay and commemorated upon the Pontypridd Boys Grammar School Memorial; sold together with a locket containing photograph of the recipient and a typed biography as well as copied research including Commonwealth War Graves details, M.I.C., Pontypridd Boys Grammar School memorial details along with extracts relating to the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent) Regiments role in attacking the Hindenburg line and relevant war diaries covering late October 1918.
