Henry Hagger was born at Nottingham, the son of William and Annie Hagger. He joined the Sherwood Foresters before the war and by 1911 was serving with the 1st Battalion at Gough Barracks, Trimulgherry. Entering the Great War in France on 4 November 1914 he was later posted to 2nd Battalion and afterwards 16th Battalion (Chatsworth Rifles). He became one of two men from this Battalion to be killed on 1 July 1917 in the trenches around Ypres. Hagger was buried at Brandhoek Military Cemetery, his father applied for his 1914 Star on 28 February 1919, at the time he was living at 23 West Street Nottingham; sold together with copied M.I.C., Commonwealth War Graves details and further research.
