John Connor was born at Hebburn-on-Tyne, Northumberland. Having enlisted at Newcastle with 25th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion he joined them in France only to be killed during the fighting on the First Day of the Somme, 1 July 1916. A Battalion roll notes that he was listed as a member of 'B' Company's Machine Gun Section; sold together with an original photograph, newspaper cutting and memorial sheet as well as copied documents including a battalion nominal roll, Commonwealth War Graves details and M.I.C.
