Henry Arthur Pearcey was born at Nately Scures, Hampshire in 1890, the son of John and Emma Pearcey of 63 Hook Street, Newnham, Hampshire. He enlisted with the 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, during the Great War and took part in the bloody Suvla Bay landings on 25 April 1915. He survived this ordeal but was killed at the Third Battle of Krithia on 4 June 1915 as his Battalion advanced along Fir Tree Spur. The next day 2nd Lieutenant George Moor, won the Victoria Cross. Pearcey is commemorated upon the Helles Memorial; sold together with copied Commonwealth War Graves details, M.I.C. card and the original letter of presentation for the medals, addressed to his father.
