Stanley Bernard Rudolph Goulder was born at Beeston, Nottingham in December 1898, the son of William and Helen Goulder of 14 Elm Tree Avenua, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. Joining the 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment he was posted to France on 30 April 1915 where he was doubtless involved in their actions at the Somme, Ypres and Cambrai. The German Spring Offensive caught the British unawares and the 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment was one of the formations in reserve at the time which was sent into prevent a breakthrough. They formed a position behind Vaucellette Farm north of Saint-Quentin, along with elements of the 2nd Battalion but heavy fog made repelling the Germans extremely difficult. They held all through 21 March under heavy attack before being relieved by the South African Scottish, Goulder was killed during the fighting here. He is commemorated upon the Pozieres Memorial; sold together with copied research including M.I.C., Commonwealth War Graves details and an extract from The History of the Lincolnshire Regiment along with original pictures, discharge documents, letters of entitlement and memorial cards for the recipient and his Grandfather, William Goulder 1846-1900.
