British War Medal 1914-20 (29136 Pte. B. Hughes. S. Wales Bord.), heavy contact marks and edge bruising, good fine

Bertie Hughes was born at Bristol in 1895, the son of Thomas and Ada of 36 Llewelyn Street, Cadoxton, Barry, Glamorgan. Enlisting at Barry, Hughes was posted to the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers and was killed in action in a dawn attack upon the Goudberg Spur, Passchendaele on 10 November 1917. He is buried in the Poelcapelle British Cemetery and commemorated upon the Barry Memorial; sold together with a typed biographical note.
