The St. Albans Collection of English Gold Coins | NGC AU58 | William III (1694-1702), "Fine Work" Two-Guineas, 1701, laureate head right, soft stop after GRA, rev. crowned shields cruciform, six strings to harp, emblem-adorned ornamental sceptres in angles, edge obliquely milled, 16.68g, 6h (Schneider II, 482; MCE 173; EGC 402; Stratos 157; Spink 3457), slight rub to highest points and a trace of cabinet friction in otherwise lustrous and residually brilliant fields cloaked with light overlying ochre tone, almost extremely fine, a highly prized one-year type and apogee of the tenure of Sir Isaac Newton as Master of the Royal Mint, with NGC 'St Albans' Certification, graded AU58 (#6295553-022)
