The St. Albans Collection of English Gold Coins | NGC AU53 | James II (1685-1688), Guinea, 1687, second laureate bust left, rev. crowned shields cruciform, five strings to harp, emblem-adorned plain sceptres in angles, edge obliquely milled, 8.28g, 6h (MCE 128; Farey 290; EGC 329; Spink 3402), the odd wisps of flecking before nose, otherwise handsomely bold for strike on portrait with underlying lustre in softly toned fields, a touch of weakness above French shield, nevertheless good very fine, with NGC 'St Albans' Certification, strictly graded AU53 (#6295553-018)
