"The Queen's Own" envelope: 1842 (5 Feb.) addressed to Brixham, Torbay bearing 1841 1d. red plate 11, PK, (margins in places), cancelled but not tied by fine strike of the black Maltese Cross, the reverse with red Edinburgh and blue Leith despatch c.d.s.; some soiling and small repairs though still a most attractive example of one of Hume's best known works. R.P.S. Certificate (1997) states "(adhesive) is not tied but is genuine as far as one can say". Recorded in "British Pictorial Envelopes of the 19th Century". Believed to be one of two surviving examples. Photo
