Pictorial Envelopes
1840 R. Rettie's "Glasgow Brass Foundry Warehouse" advertising envelope showing the decorative address panel border, the flaps with beautiful illustrations of the company's premises and wares, which cover an extraordinary range of goods bought and sold - including ancient coins, precious stones, water purifying devises, "Bearts'" Patent Coffee Filter", ivory, gas lamps, parcel and letter scales (including those designed for "Rowland Hill's Plan of Penny Postage") and "Curiosities of every description". Affixed with a Penny Black, plate 4,. RH (unused with good to very large margins). The folds and the adhesive with some light staining but these barely detract from this stunning and extremely rare early advertising envelope. Photo
