The Lost Collection of Simon English Esq. | Charles I (1625-1649), Pattern Half-Unite or Double-Crown, c. 1634, by Edward Greene of the Royal Mint at the Tower of London, (m.m.) CAROLVS • D .' G .' MAG .' BRIT .' FRAN .' ET • HIB .' REX, L over V in CAROLVS, crowned 'Coronation' bust left, wearing stiffened ruff, X behind, rev. • CVLTORES • SVI • DEVS • PROTEGIT • (m.m.) • crowned and garnished shield, 4.55g [70.2grns], 12h, m.m. slipped trefoil (Brooker 1263 this coin; Schneider I, - ; North 2668; Spink -), a small metal flaw below value, traces of doubling in legends, and a hint of cabinet friction in fields, otherwise softly but attractively toned, almost extremely fine, and an unique display of Greene's intricate workmanship, and one of the most significant Carolean gold Patterns to be offered since appearance of Nicholas Briot's Angel in 2010 and Vanderdoort's Pattern Triple Unite in 2005
