The Lost Collection of Simon English Esq. | Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage, Treaty Period, Noble, 1363-1369, 'Treaty B', Calais, ED | WARD : DEI : GRA : REX : ANGL : DNS : hYB S AQ | T, double saltire stops, King standing in ship, flag at stern, holding sword and shield, ropes 3/2, quatrefoils 4/4, ornaments -11-11, rev. + IhC : AVTEM : TRANSIENS : PER : MEDIV : ILLORVM : IBAT, double saltire stops, ornate cross fleury, crowned leopards in angles, C at centre, 7.69g [118.8grns], 3h, p.m. -/cross pattée (Lockett 3010 same dies; North 1236; Spink 1504), traces of doubling and die clashing under magnification, otherwise a remarkably 'fresh' specimen consistently selected for wax illustration in past discerning cabinets, an irregular edge between 11 and 1 o'clock, otherwise truly choice, a most pleasing extremely fine, rare in this exemplary state
