The Lost Collection of Simon English Esq. | Richard II (1377-1399), Noble, Type Ib, 'Edward III' Style, Calais, RIC | ARD : D : G : REX : ANGL : Z : FRANC : D : hIB Z AQ, quatrefoil above sail, double saltire stops, King standing in ship, flag at stern, holding sword and shield, ropes 3/1, quatrefoils 5/4, ornaments 1-1-1, rev. + IhC : AVTEM : TRANSIENS : PER : MEDIV : ILLORVM : IBAT, double saltire stops, ornate cross fleury, crowned leopards in angles, R at centre, 7.70g [118.8grns], 4h, p.m. -/cross pattée (Sir John Evans 2223 same dies; Thellusson [1931], Pl. 1, no. 5 same dies; SJA 22, 1 October 2012, lot 364 [RII/EIII Mule], same obverse die; Baumhauer 517; Webb-Ware 1b; Schneider I, 142 same dies; North 1306; Spink 1660), traces of white-wax in recesses, otherwise wonderfully uniform and lustrous, a most pleasingly good extremely fine and an excessively rare type, with only three presumed to be in private hands, a stunningly choice example of the Ricardian Majesty
