Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (285221. Reuben Argent, Actg. Ch. Sto. H.M.S. Pembroke.), contact marks, slight edge wear, very fine

Reuben Argent was born at Little Maplestead, Essex on 26 February 1876 and enlisted on 14 May 1897 with the rank of Stoker Class II. After training he was sent to the battleship Goliath as part of the initial crew. Soon posted with her to China, Argent saw service there during the Boxer Rebellion, suggesting entitlement to a China Medal 1900, although this is unconfirmed.

Promoted Stoker Petty Officer aboard H.M.S. Lancaster on 1 July 1906 he was further promoted Chief Stoker aboard H.M.S. Eclipse on 26 February 1914. Posted to the Town-lass cruiser Yarmouth on 14 April of that year Argent was to serve with her for much of the war. Yarmouth participated in the Battle of Jutland as part of the 2nd Light Cruiser Squadron but did not suffer any losses. Argent was demobilised on 29 August 1919 and joined the Royal Fleet Reserve; sold together with copied service papers.
