(x) Six: Lieutenant-Colonel P. A. S. Robertson, Grenadier Guards, who was wounded in action near Caen on 22 July 1944 and was Regimental Adjutant from 1945-47

Patrick Arthur Shaw Robertson - or 'Pat' to his friends and comrades - was born on 17 August 1912 at Bath. Educated at Downside School, during which he served in the Officers' Training Corps from 1926-30; he went up to the Royal Military Academy thereafter. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant into the Grenadier Guards on 2 September 1932 and was posted to the 2nd Battalion. With the unit in Egypt in 1936, he was made Adjutant, having been advanced Lieutenant on 1 September 1935. He took up the position of Aide-de-Camp to Sir Herbert Stanley, Governor and C-in-C Southern Rhodesia from 2 September 1938-30 November 1939.

Returned to Britain, he was made Captain on 1 September 1940 and Adjutant of the 1st Battalion from 23 April-14 September 1941. A number of Staff postings followed but he was also wounded in action on 22 July 1944 at Calgney, near Caen whilst serving as a Brigade Major, 4th Armoured Brigade. Post-War, Robertson was made Regimental Adjutant, a post held from 23 June 1945-18 December 1947. He finished his career with postings at the War Office, in the Deptartment of CIGS and specially employed as a General Staff Officer (1st Grade) to the Director of Military Intelligence, July 1954-December 1957. Robertson retired as a Lieutenant-Colonel and lived in the parish of the Brompton Oratory. He died at St Mary Abbotts Hospital, Kensington on 7 May 1982 and his funeral at the Oratory was filled by old comrades and the Regiment was represented by the Regimental Adjutant; sold together with copied research which includes a number of images in which he is features.
