Five: Master Signaller E. F. Aston, Royal Air Force, who flew 20 'Ops' on Italy during the Second World War and latterly flew a plethora of supply drops to Berlin shortly after Op Plainfare

E. F. Aston joined the Royal Air Force at Euston, he qualified in January 1944 and during the Second World War flew '...20 Operational Sorties ex No. 70 Squadron, Foggia, C.M.F. Participation in Air Trooping Scheme, Foggia to UK, Egypt, Greece and Southern France.'

With the blockade on Berlin officially closing on 12 May 1949, there was still a huge requirement that the city should be supplied. As such, Aston, flying with No. 206 Squadron, dropped into Gatow on no less than 52 occasions from May-September 1949. Serving with No. 57 Squadron at Coningsby, he was present for Operation 'BULLSEYE' on 24 May 1952 and served in Persia in 1955-56. Made Master Signaller on 15 March 1959, he served on the Development Squadron that year and also went to serve with No. 47 & 30 Squadrons. Having been awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in May 1961, when his final Log Book entry was made in July 1964, Aston totalled some 6,128.55hrs of flying.

Sold together with his Flying Log Book, covering the dates 14 April 1947-7 July 1964. Pasted into the first page is a letter confirming his first Log Book was stolen at Calais in July 1945 and not replaced.
